I agree that when we are planning our math lessons to look at the math cores from the grade before, our grade, and the grade after. This will help us understand where the students are coming from with their base knowledge, what they need to know at the end of the year, and what they are going to learn in the net grade level. I agree with playing games with mathematical elements. Games engage students with the words, "We are going to play a game." They see it as fun and they learn or practice what they need by playing it. My mentor teacher had played games almost everyday in class so far. They students enjoy it and they stay engaged.

The 5 E's
Going through the 5 E's was interesting. I had to step out of my comfort zone and engage a new way to learn. I love this and I know my students will enjoy learning the 5 E way. Students enjoy learning hands on and trying to figure something out on their own. With the 5 E's model students needs to adapt to a new way of learning. The 5 E model helps students with non-routine problem solving and thinking outside the box. This will help them when they are in the work force as environment and ways of doing things are changing everyday. Students need to have complex communication and social skills. This will help the students in the future as they will need to read non verbal cues and understand verbally what their peers are discussing. Having a class of students learning the 5 E model will help them to self manage and take responsibility for their individual learning as well as their groups learning and understanding.
I loved trying to figure out how to make the finches turn in a square. This is a introduction so I will be able to help my oldest son with his Genius Hour Project that his teacher has engaged him to complete. He has decided to program a robot. I can guide him and push him to think outside the box and help him learn how to program a robot. This will also help me figure out how to implement it into my classroom. and work out most of the hiccups. By getting my son's input and my input I think we can and will make this happen!
